Dear Colleagues,

The conference "Communicating Astronomy with the Public 2013" (CAP2013) will take place in Warsaw, Poland, from 14 to 18 October 2013. Following the previous meetings in this series, CAP2013 will consider challenges in communication of astronomy and space exploration, as well as the influence of these activities on science outreach and education. The meeting will include unconference and workshops sessions as well as interactive planetarium shows and special events.

Conference Highlights:

  • Inaugural lecture by Prof. Mark McCaughrean, Head of Research & Scientific Support Department, European Space Agency, Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration
  • Special screening of new planetarium film "Dream to fly" and meeting with creators
  • Special screening of new IMAX film "Hidden Universe 3D" and meeting with creators
  • Vernissage of ESO photography exhibition, including pictures taken at stunning sites in Chile
  • Special screening of "Chopin The Space Concert" film and meeting with creators
  • Trip to Torun - City of Copernicus and observatories of ASTROBASE project
  • Discussion 1: New opportunities for CAP community, including involvement in the International Year of Light 2015
  • Discussion 2: Science Communication as a Creative Industry
  • Discussion 3: Science, Industry and Government - Joining Efforts for the Purposes of Science Education and Outreach

The meeting is organized by the IAU Commission 55: Communicating Astronomy with the Public in cooperation with the Copernicus Science Centre, the Warsaw University of Technology (Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering) and the New Space Foundation.
