Purpose and goals

Rationale

This conference aims to bring together the IAU National Single Points of Contacts (SPoCs) from each country and large organisation, together with the IAU Executive Committee Working Group to initiate the global planning for IYA2009. The IAU EC WG will share information on the process leading to the possible declaration of IYA2009 by the UN General Assembly in 2007. The majority of the conference will be devoted to discussing and choosing the Global events that the IAU will lead and to the presentation of ideas concerning National events in each country by the SPoCs. We hope this interchange will stimulate national events in each country present at the conference.
